Our Company
Charles B. Johnson, a Finnish immigrant, traveled the world on a four-masted schooner before coming to the U.S. and settling in Chicago, IL. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and became a celebrated local watercolor artist well-liked in Scandinavian communities. In 1933, Charles started painting signs in Chicago, founding a business that still runs over 90 years later, C. Johnson Sign Company.
In 1943, Charles relocated his business and family to Franklin Park. By 1970, his son, John C. Johnson, assumed control of the business, allowing his father to enjoy being a snowbird and pursue his passion for painting in Florida, Texas, and Mexico. Charles would come back when the weather got warmer to letter boats in the harbor and boatyards in Chicago, and when he had free time, he assisted John at the shop.
Elmhurst University alumnus and former Coast Guard Auxiliary National Staff Division Chief, John Johnson continues the tradition of creating and installing high-quality custom corporate and industrial signs. The business has grown to include custom industrial stencils.
Each of our signs is tailored to meet the individual needs of our clients. We provide custom quotes for every project to guarantee the best cost effectiveness.
C. Johnson Sign Company is a fully bonded and insured company, member of the Illinois Sign Association, and an authorized Daktronics factory service center.
